In a significant escalation of tensions, Germany has formally accused Russia of being behind an attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport, a critical hub for support operations in Ukraine. The German government plans to respond by closing the Russian consulate in Bonn and a cultural center, along with expelling diplomats. Chancellor Friedrich Merz indicated that a coordinated response with EU and NATO partners is forthcoming as Germany intensifies its measures against perceived Russian hybrid aggression. The accusations come amid heightened security concerns, following the discovery of multiple drones and military explosives in the vicinity of the airport.
