Reports indicate that exposure cases are linked to travel and cruise ship passengers, raising concerns over public health. Currently, a total of 16 states are involved in tracking potential hantavirus cases, with health departments closely watching those who may have had contact with infected individuals. In Maryland, two residents are under observation after possible exposure during travel, while officials in Minnesota are monitoring several cases that may relate to both overseas travel and cruise outbreaks. Kansas health officials are also monitoring individuals for high-risk exposure to the Andes hantavirus. As the situation develops, health authorities emphasize that the overall risk remains low.
