New York City Commemorates 9/11 Victims and Heroes with Memorial Unveilings

In a series of poignant events marking the legacy of 9/11, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch criticized revisionists for misrepresenting the line between heroes and terrorists, emphasizing the enduring legacy of 9/11 heroes in the NYPD. As part of the commemoration, the NYPD added 469 names to the One Police Plaza memorial wall, honoring officers who succumbed to recovery-related illnesses. Simultaneously, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore unveiled a new 9/11 memorial wall, which included 36 names of FDNY members who died from 9/11-related illnesses, totaling significant additions to honor the fallen. Events also included the rededication of memorials for NYPD Emergency Service Unit members and initiatives to ensure the memories of those lost are never forgotten.
