As the fifth anniversary of the fall of Kabul approaches, many Afghan allies who bravely served alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan are grappling with the ongoing challenges of resettlement and security in the U.S. There are growing concerns about the potential loss of their green cards and a sense of abandonment from the U.S. government. Rights groups highlight that restrictions have left many Afghan refugees at further risk. Meanwhile, other countries, like Canada, are urged to learn from this situation as they navigate their own Afghan resettlement processes. Organizations such as HIAS and the Vermont Afghan Alliance are emphasizing the need to remember and support these individuals who continue to face uncertainty five years later.
