Recent reports indicate a sharp decline in enrollment for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with many states experiencing drops faster than anticipated. Communities, particularly in Connecticut and Massachusetts, are seeing significant losses in food assistance as federal changes and new work requirements take effect. Families are increasingly worried about food affordability, raising alarm among local nonprofits that are stepping in to provide support. Critics point to anti-SNAP rhetoric as exacerbating the situation. As enrollment numbers plunge, advocates warn of a looming crisis for those reliant on federal aid.
