In a significant and rare move, the House has officially censured Republican Congressman Chuck Edwards from North Carolina after an investigation revealed persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two female staffers. The House voted overwhelmingly, with a tally of 413-2, to impose this ethics punishment following allegations of sexual harassment, which included inappropriate late-night texts and lavish gifts to the aides. Edwards attempted to defend himself by claiming that poetry should not be considered sexual misconduct, an argument that failed to sway his colleagues. He publicly apologized to his wife and former staffers ahead of the censure vote, but the fallout from the allegations has impacted his political future, prompting him to withdraw from a reelection bid.
