Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak in New York City Widens

A significant outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease has been reported in New York City, particularly affecting the Upper East Side. As of now, at least 54 cases have been confirmed, with 17 individuals hospitalized. The Guggenheim Museum has tested positive for the Legionella bacteria, which has been found in 31 buildings across the area. Health officials are proactively investigating cooling towers linked to the outbreak, ordering 31 sites to be scrubbed to mitigate the spread. Symptoms to watch for include cough, fever, and shortness of breath, and residents are urged to stay informed and monitor for any signs of illness.
