In a highly anticipated showdown, California gubernatorial candidates Xavier Becerra and Steve Hilton squared off in their only scheduled debate, discussing a range of critical issues including the housing crisis, immigration, and the influence of Donald Trump. The debate highlighted stark contrasts between the two candidates, with Hilton accusing Becerra of failing to create jobs and linking him closely to Trump, while Becerra maintained a strong lead in polls and focused on the high cost of living and Democratic Party initiatives. Key moments included heated exchanges over Hollywood job losses and accusations from both sides regarding immigration policies. As mail ballots go to voters, this debate served as a crucial platform for each candidate to appeal to undecided voters.
