The G20 Summit is currently taking place in Asheville, North Carolina, where U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged member countries to prioritize deregulation and a growth-first agenda. Despite discussions focused on economic growth and addressing the impact of the Iran war, tensions loom as the U.S. seeks to rally allies while managing criticism over its tariffs and policies. The summit has drawn both global leaders and activists, with local residents expressing concerns over inadequate funding for recovery. Certain journalists have been barred from covering the event, raising issues of press freedom amid the discussions. Overall, the summit aims to address various economic challenges faced by G20 nations, although different approaches to shared problems have emerged among the leaders.
