FDA Concludes Investigation into Cyclospora Outbreak Linked to Mexican Lettuce
The FDA has officially closed its investigation into a widespread Cyclospora outbreak linked to lettuce grown at Taylor Farms in Mexico. Following inspections, the agency identified the parasite in a wastewater tank and drainage areas at the processing site. This outbreak has resulted in 12,883 reported illnesses, with over 570 hospitalizations and two fatalities. The FDA also announced a set of ten new prevention measures aimed at addressing food safety concerns and preventing future incidents as part of their commitment to food safety for the upcoming growing season. This outbreak has highlighted significant gaps in food safety protocols, raising critical questions about the safety of salads and leafy greens for consumers.
