Syria and Russia Reach Agreement on Military Bases
Syria has finalized a significant deal with Russia concerning the future of its military presence in the country, particularly regarding the strategic Tartous and Hmeimim bases. After 18 months of negotiations, the agreement entails Syria regaining control over these two key Mediterranean bases while allowing Russia to maintain a military foothold. Under the new arrangement, the military bases are set to be transformed into joint training centers. Additionally, both nations have agreed on a transitional period for the civilian and military restructuring of the sites, marking a notable shift in their military cooperation.
