Recent incursions by suspected Russian drones near Romanian territory have escalated concerns regarding security in the Black Sea region, particularly around key gas projects. A series of incidents saw NATO jets, including Romanian F-16s, successfully intercept and destroy explosives-laden drones close to the Neptun Deep gas platform. Romanian officials have attributed the drone threats to Moscow, amidst warnings from EU leaders about an escalating campaign of hybrid warfare. Concurrently, the Romanian military has been on high alert, responding to multiple drone sightings and crashes, raising alarms about potential further incursions from the ongoing Ukraine conflict. Debris from these drones has been found in various locations, prompting an urgent call for heightened defensive measures to protect lives and vital infrastructure.
