Wildfires Rage Across Northern Minnesota, Prompting Evacuations and Emergency Responses
Multiple wildfires, including the Stewart Trail Fire and the Flanders Fire, are currently devastating northern Minnesota. The Stewart Trail Fire near Two Harbors is about 62 percent contained, yet it has already destroyed at least 34 buildings and forced road closures along Highway 61. Meanwhile, the Flanders Fire in Crow Wing County has grown to over 1,600 acres with only 20 percent containment, leading to mandatory evacuations and an emergency declaration by Governor Walz, who has mobilized the National Guard to assist firefighting efforts. Evacuations remain in place as additional structures are threatened by the advancing flames. With red flag warnings issued for 15 counties, the situation remains critical as crews combat these wildfires across the region.
