The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is moving forward with a plan to purchase electric shock gloves for its officers, with a budget of up to $20 million. This decision has sparked significant outrage among rights advocates and former officials, raising concerns about the potential for misuse and abuse. Critics fear that equipping agents with such technology could lead to excessive force during detentions. New York officials, including Governor Hochul, have expressed their opposition, warning that the use of these gloves might subject ICE agents to legal repercussions. The plan has prompted national debates on law enforcement practices and the implications of using electroshock devices. With significant funding approved, ICE is set to implement this contentious initiative despite widespread criticism.
