A staff member of the San Diego Padres, specifically the minor-league catching coordinator Oswaldo Pirela, was detained by ICE at the El Paso airport while traveling for work. This incident has raised concerns among fans and family, as he was reportedly heading home to his children. Pirela, a former Venezuelan player, is one of several individuals associated with Major League Baseball who have faced immigration enforcement actions in recent years. The Padres organization has expressed its dismay over the situation and is seeking answers regarding the detention.
